As the new editor of LSHSS, I would first like to thank Ruth Huntley Bahr for the exceptional job she did as the editor for the past 3 years. As an associate editor (AE) during that time, I witnessed first-hand her stewardship of LSHSS, which enjoys the largest circulation of ASHA’s journals. One of the skills I learned from Ruth was how to mentor an author in crafting a manuscript that would be suitable for publication. Her comments were thorough and were always made to improve the quality of the paper.
In my experience as an AE, I also learned of the misconceptions many authors have about the publication process. ASHA maintains two web links, in particular, that include valuable information about the publication process. The information for authors can be found at http://www.asha.org/about/publications/journal-abstracts/submissions/. In addition, an insider’s guide to the publication process is located at http://www.asha.org/about/publications/journal-abstracts/submissions/process.htm. For experienced and inexperienced authors alike, these two sites provide useful information that warrants review, including some tips on dos and don’ts as you prepare your manuscript. I will, however, highlight some of that information here.
