As the Editor of LSHSS, I receive many kinds of questions regarding the editorial process. Some common ones are: “I want to write an article for the journal. What happens to it once it has been sent off?”; “Why does it take so long to hear whether or not my article has been accepted?”; and “Why does it take so long to have an article published?” Because the path from submitting an article to final publication can often seem mysterious, particularly for those who have never published, an explanation of the editorial process may be helpful.
