A Comparison of Two Measures of Receptive Vocabulary Two measures of receptive vocabulary were compared at three grade levels (1–3). The two measures were the Picture Vocabulary. subtest of the Test of Language Development-Primary (TOLD-P PV) and the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised (PPVT-R). Moderate but significant Pearson r correlations were found at each grade level as well as ... Research Article

Two measures of receptive vocabulary were compared at three grade levels (1–3). The two measures were the Picture Vocabulary. subtest of the Test of Language Development-Primary (TOLD-P PV) and the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised (PPVT-R). Moderate but significant Pearson r correlations were found at each grade level as well as for the entire sample. The strength of the correlation was found to increase as the grade level increased, with the strongest correlation for the entire sample. The results suggest that although a significant relationship exists between the TOLD-P PV subtest and the PPVT-R, the former should be used in conjunction with the latter, not as a substitute.
