The scores of 11 children on a Pragmatic Protocol were correlated with their ratings by five experienced judges on a 7-point, equal-appearing interval scale of communicative competence. The obtained Spearman rank-order coefficient of .75 [p < .025] was interpreted as support for the concurrent validity of the protocol. Data which reflect on the interobserver reliability of the Pragmatic Protocol scorers are also reported.
